Galaxy Cafe – The Underrated ATX Gem

May 14, 2018

After finishing up our Story of Us, it’s time for a new series!! We’re both local Austinites and have been seeking out date night fun for almost seven years now! We’ve seen tons of businesses come and go and we like to think we can pick through stuff that’s authentic and worth doing rather than just being trendy! This is a quick peek into our favorite things around town for your free Friday, your weekly date night, your anniversary, or your just because!! We love roaming around our city and trying new things, so stay tuned for updates with new stuff we’ve been trying and as always some of our old favorites!

We’re always looking for something that toes the line between casual and upscale. Don’t get me wrong – we spend a lot of time eating at Chipotle and P. Terry’s, but it can be nice to visit somewhere with counter service that still has a classy-yet-inviting vibe. It helps that we both remember eating here as kids so it’s got a bit of nostalgia!

The Clarksville location specifically is secluded, fun, and never too crowded. We personally like it because there aren’t too many reasons for us to venture into Clarksville, and it can be super fun to go urban-exploring in the beautiful, old Austin neighborhoods. It’s also got a super diverse menu (highlight on the killer salmon salad) with lots of healthy options.

The vibe and location makes it a perfect spot for a lunch/anytime mini-date if one of you works in or near downtown, while staying far enough away from the bustle and traffic.

Great For: easy dinner with your S.O’s parents

This is especially true if your parents live out of town. Picking somewhere nice enough to take them but easy and reliably enough for everyone to want to go to can be tough. Galaxy checks all the boxes and is nice enough to impress anybody. P.S. – they have a ton of gluten free & veggie options!

Great for: the night of the week where you’re feeling a lil classy

We try to cook at home as much as possible, but frequently find ourselves at one of 4-5 very casual neighborhood restaurants. Galaxy is one of our favorites to break the monotony and the routine a bit and drive us to get at least somewhat dressed up. If the weather is nice it’s fun to walk up and down west 6th street too!

Great for: Middle-of-work lunch date

Since this particular location is so central, it’s a great spot for a quick mini-date, either during work or any time of the week. It’s important to both of us to be able to slow down and focus on one another during hectic work-weeks, and this is the perfect setting for something like that!
